Brechner Speaker Series: Once Upon a Time in Florida

Sunday, January 14, 2024, 1:30 – 3 p.m.

Join Florida Humanities and the Orange County Regional History Center to celebrate the book Once Upon a Time in Florida: Stories of Life in the Land of Promises, which marks the 50th anniversary of Florida Humanities with 50 timeless essays from the organization’s award-winning magazine, FORUM.

As part of a statewide book tour, Jacki Levine, the anthology’s editor, reunites with scholars and writers whose essays appear in this richly illustrated volume. Speaking at the History Center will be historian Gary Mormino, whose essay “The Florida Century” appeared in the Fall 2019 FORUM; writer and artist Andrea Brunais, author of “Memoirs of a Child of the Space Program” (Winter 1997-1998); and NPR journalist Eric Deggans, author of “How They See Us” (Summer 2020). There will be a reception with light snacks prior to the panel.
