Erasing the Stigma of Addiction: An INTO LIGHT Discussion

Join the History Center and the Orange County Drug-Free Coalition as we examine the stigma associated with Substance Use Disorder. Dr. Thomas Hall, director of the Coalition, will lead a panel of experts who will discuss false narratives about addiction. The session will show the alternative to stigma – the way out of the shadows of shame and guilt and into the light of forgiveness and courage.

Moderator

Thomas Hall, Ph.D., is the Director of the Orange County Drug-Free Office. He is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker. Dr. Hall has provided clinical services to individuals and families for 27 years. His specialty areas include grief and loss and substance use disorders.

Panelists

Amie R. Newins, Ph.D., is an associate professor of psychology at the University of Central Florida. She is also the director of clinical operations for the Rosengren Trauma Clinic at UCF RESTORES.

Lidia Meshesha, Ph.D., is an assistant professor of psychology at the University of Central Florida. She is also the director of the UCF Designing Research & Education for Addiction Management (DREAM) Lab and is a licensed psychologist (PY 11369).

Michael E. Dunn, Ph.D., is an associate professor of psychology at the University of Central Florida, where he serves as the associate director of clinical training for the Ph.D. program in clinical psychology. He is also the director of the UCF Health, Expectancies, and Addiction Laboratory (HEAL) and the co-director of the Substance Use Research Group. Dr. Dunn is a licensed psychologist (FL PY5502).
