Orange County Museum Packs it in.
“One of my complaints about Orlando is its lack of good museums focusing on the arts, sciences, and history ... The City seems to have a hard time presenting educational and historical information that isn't Disney. The Orange County [Regional] History Center pulls it off wonderfully. First, come prepared to actually learn something ... The museum covers important aspects of Central Florida's history including, the arrival of Disney World, prehistoric native people, and a historic courtroom. Great [traveling] exhibits routinely come to the museum ... The museum also emphasizes African American history and doesn't gloss over the parts we would rather forget. This is a great place to come and learn about Florida history.” –TripAdvisor.com user happytraveler709, Orlando, Florida

The History Center is a Real Gem in the Heart of Downtown Orlando.
“I feel like not enough people know about this old courthouse-turned museum that's cheap to visit and has some really interesting exhibits. ... The lobby has a cute little store with all kinds of Florida-centric goodies ranging from Gator trinkets to citrus wines available only in Florida. The exhibits are actually pretty interesting with walk-through dioramas of historic Florida life and plenty of vintage photographs of what Downtown Orlando used to look like in the 19th century. The History Center had the great idea of hosting a "Retro Game Night" featuring all kinds of old-school board games that we remember and love. ... I hope they come up with some more themed events to increase the exposure they deserve!” –Yelp.com user Maria-Cristina N., Orlando, Florida

Nice!
"Although downtown, I found it easy to drive to. The gentleman at the counter was very nice. The museum is clean and spread out on four floors. [There is a] lot of information on early life in Florida and famous people from the Orlando area."

I Have Been to the History Center Two Times Now.
“Today, I took my pre-k class on a field trip here and they had a great time. There was a room set up like a jungle and another like an old house and there were lots of hands on activities for them. I want to come back alone and get a good look at the rest of the exhibits, but the courtroom alone is worth stepping in and taking a look at! Just check it out and you will see what I mean.” –Yelp.com user Erin S., Orlando, Florida

Excellent Museum, Well Worth Seeing!!
“As a Florida Resident, I was touched by this beautiful museum. I am very happy to see that the history of Orlando hasn’t been lost and is being preserved in this spectacular place. Every exhibit tells a story of how Florida and Orlando came to be ... I was also impressed to see an authentic, fully-intact Courtroom from 1927, every detail is so finely preserved and historic in nature. In addition to the above, this has to be one of the cleanest and best maintained museums I have ever been too, every square inch of this building was spotless inside and out. I strongly recommend this museum if you’re looking for a fine authentic Orlando experience.” –TripAdvisor.com user orlandohelper, Orlando, Florida

Thank You for Being Our [Tour] Guide.
"I learned that the Spanish brought diseases to Florida and cows and oranges. I also learned about how the [Seminole] Indians lived. I also learned what people do in court. I liked when you made the sinkhole with the sand. And it is a good thing that those Snowy Egrets are not getting hunted as much anymore. So I had a great time at the History Center ... ." –Fourth grade student at Lakeville Elementary School, Apopka, Florida
