Florida Fallen Heroes Quilt Project
November 3 - December 6, 2009
The quilts on display are part of a community project honoring Florida's fallen servicemen and women in the Iraq and Afghanistan conflicts. The seven quilts, including one by a 4th grade class, each feature 30 squares with military or patriotic themes and names of deceased soldiers.

The project was inspired by a young Florida seaman returning from duty in Iraq who expressed a desire to honor the friends he lost. Project organizer Linda Fliss felt the quilts were a "creative way to express our patriotic spirit." Quilt squares, materials, and funds have been donated by community members and quilters around the state of Florida and beyond.

The quilts were designed and created by Ruth Gulbrand, Pam Butner, and Ruth Sultz.

Quilt squares are needed to help create more memory quilts honoring Florida's fallen heroes. Bring a completed quilt square to the History Center and receive $2 off admission. Offer good through December 6.

Quilt squares must me 9.5" in size, with a patriotic or military design, and enough space to write the name of a soldier.
